What to Expect from your first counselling session
Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes. Carl Jung
I am an Accredited Member IACP Irish Association of counselling and psychotherapy. And Hold a Professional Diploma in Humanistic Counselling, I have completed a MSc in adolescent Psychotherapy. I provide one to one therapy in the Dublin area. I provide a safe, warm and confidential environment where clients are greeted in a non judgmental way. Where they can explore and talk through issues. My work is focused and tailored to the client's requirements, helping them to address & challenge current beliefs and thoughts to allow change. Counselling can feel like a daunting first step But in my experience one well worth taking as it can lead to positive growth and self-discovery. I have worked with people from all walks of life, those experiencing relationship issues, family issues, childhood issues, work-related issues, stress, identity problems, abuse, anxiety, depression, grief, loss, trauma. I am committed to the highest degree of ethical practice including the IACP code of Ethics. I work to form a non-directive personal centred approach and incorporate it in other areas such as CBT, EFT and Holistic therapies.
Our first session is about beginning our therapeutic relationship, allowing space for you to decide if you feel I am the right fit for you and the counselling style I provide is right for you. It’s also a time for me to learn a little bit about you generally and to begin to get an idea of what you would like to get from your therapy.
At the end of the first session, I check in with you to see how you felt during the session and if you have any other questions about me or my work. For therapy to be useful, we need to build trust together. This trust-building happens over several sessions. Our first session is an introduction, which is the beginning of forming a trusting relationship together. I would usually recommend a minimum of six sessions, Once weekly on a day and time that we have prearranged.
